From age seven, Ezra trained as dancer with the New York City Ballet; and became a professional – dancing on international stages, and collaborating with renowned choreographers, musicians, fashion designers and fine artists.
While ballet had ignited a passion for visual storytelling, Ezra only discovered filmmaking once sidelined from the stage due to a serious back injury. By the time he was recovered, he was already creating films for major cultural institutions like the Guggenheim Museum, New York Times, American Ballet Theatre and Lincoln Center.
Shortly thereafter, Ezra was tapped by acclaimed filmmaker Spike Jonze to collaborate on work for the fashion label, Opening Ceremony; and was similarly recruited by brands like Tiffanys, Dior, Smirnoff, Apple, Aldo, and Stella Artois, as well as Broadway shows (Chicago, Carousel, and Moulin Rouge) to create films and campaigns.
Leaving his own stage career behind, he earned a degree in film from Columbia University; and, in only a short number of years, has built a prolific body of work – including short films, music videos and commercials.
In 2020, Ezra directed his short film ‘Inside & Outwards’, featuring Sarah Jessica Parker, with music by Sufjan Stevens. The film went on to win an Emmy Award and Webby Award. That year, his video for Sufjan Stevens’ “Sugar” also received a Webby Award nomination, a Cyclope Award, AICP Award, and was featured in Indie Wire as among “The Best Music Videos of 2020”.
In 2021, Ezra was commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art to create the film Colorforms featuring music by Steve Reich and the dancers of the San Francisco Ballet. Additionally, Ezra was commissioned by Lincoln Center to direct four films in place of the NYC Ballet’s covid era live-performances.
Ezra has worked with such talent as Julia Roberts, Emma Stone, Glenn Close, Rachel Weisz, Ethan Hawk, Laverne Cox, Regina Hall, MJ Rodriguez, Misty Copeland, Sia, LaKeith Stanfield, Mia Wasikowska, Vanessa William and others.
Ezra’s recent clients include DoorDash, Stella Artois, LG, Tillamook, Kahluah, Frito-Lay, Clorox, Lego, Disney, as well as Netflix and Amazon. He’s currently directing work on Season 3 of Amazon Prime’s ‘The Boys’.
His work has been featured in the Hollywood Reported, Entertainment, Variety, Vogue, Playbill, NY Times, People, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, Rollingstone, Vulture, Billboard, OUT, Cultured, The Huffington Post and more.
